E.J. Kim, M. Ed., C.C.C.

Registered Provisional Psychologist

Calgary, Alberta, Canada

E.J. is a Provisionally Registered Psychologist, with the College of Alberta Psychologists. He is also a Certified Counsellor under the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA).

His therapeutic training is focused in the mindfulness-based interventions of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT).

His interest in psychology came from his enquiries into the nature of human suffering. While studying toward a Bachelor’s degree in Social Psychology, he worked as a Laboratory Manager for the Mindfulness and Emotion Regulation Research Lab at the University of Rochester in New York. During his military service in South Korea, he served as a sergeant and crisis counsellor. Afterward he walked El Camino de Santiago to learn, through the physical challenges of a pilgrim, about the nature of his own mind; this experience led him to become an acolyte in a South Korean Buddhist monastery, where he learned the embodiment of mindfulness practice.

EJ completed his Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology in 2019 after coming back to North America and has been working with clients with various difficulties. His clinical focus involves the prevention and treatment of anxiety-related and depressive disorders, trauma- and stress-related disorders, chronic pain management, and emotion regulation.

Outside of work, EJ enjoys participating in and facilitating meditation groups and workshops in his community. If not on a cushion, he can often be found at the climbing wall, in the swimming pool, or longboarding through the park.
